March was literacy month and most schools had a literacy event during the month. Some schools invited community partners into the classrooms to read to the students. Others had Green Eggs and Ham breakfasts since Dr. Seuss’ birthday is also in March, while others dressed up as their favorite book character. Many school had BINGO for Books. Parents and children would play BINGO as a group. As soon as they had a BINGO, the student could go to the book table to select a book, or two, to take home. It is important to get books into the hands and homes of young children so this is a favorite event for families. Scholastic book fairs are also popular during March. Challenge your children to read every day, even during the summer, to keep their reading skills increasing.
