Water Safety

June 8, 2015

After a long and cold winter; beach and pool season is finally upon us! Swimming is the most popular
summer activity so we wanted to pass along a few safety reminders.

•Always swim in areas that are occupied by a life-guard
•Use the buddy system! Don’t let children swim alone, even in public and/or highly populated areas
•Remember to bring some type of flotation device (life jacket, kickboard, water wings, etc.) for those that do not know how to swim or are inexperienced at swimming.
•Don’t allow children to play around drains and suction fittings
•Be cautious of the temperature of the water as well as the current and undertow. These can make swimming increasingly difficult.

Most importantly, always remember to actively supervise your children around bodies of water! For more information on water safety, please visit: http://www.redcross.org/prepare/disaster/water-safety
