Many events in May celebrate the accomplishments made by our staff, students and parents throughout the year. The Family and Community Engagement Office is no different. This year we decided to upgrade this event since there is so much to celebrate that our former format could no longer do the work justice. It is also the year where our Superintendent, Teresa Weatherall Neal retires. She was the founder of this department years ago and we did not want her retirement to pass without a proper thank you from our office. All the Parent Action Leaders and representative families from each school gathered in early May to reflect on the process of parent engagement, to present awards to outstanding parents, and give proper respect due to our retiring superintendent. Our theme was Growing Together. District parents are taking up the cause of family and community engagement and its spirit is growing every year. This is evident in the increasing number of events and larger numbers of parents attending and participating in activities of the school and in the academic success of our schools. This shows in attendance numbers, graduation numbers and test scores. We are Growing Together. There is room for all.
