Kids’ Food Basket is a community solution to childhood hunger. Every day Kids’ Food Basket provides thousands of children around West Michigan with a daily sack supper. Kids’ Food Basket believes that in order for children to reach their full potential they cannot be hungry. Within each meal is a fresh fruit, fresh veggie, a protein and healthy snack. Hundreds of volunteers prepare the food, pack the meals and deliver them directly into elementary schools so kids can receive one in a way that is safe and accessible for them. We all share in the benefits that come from consistent, nutritious food prepared with love.
Kids’ Food Basket inspires youth to make a difference through volunteer and leadership opportunities. New generations are equipped with the knowledge and skills to get involved and create positive change. Youth ages 5 and up can volunteer within their schools, on-site in Kids’ Food Basket’s facilities or at Kids’ Food Basket’s urban farm where they get the opportunity to plant, harvest and learn where food comes from. Students from North Park Montessori, Coit Creative Arts Academy, Stocking Elementary, Brookside Elementary, East Leonard Elementary, Sibley Elementary, Aberdeen Academy, Buchanan Elementary, Burton Elementary, and Westwood Middle School have had Kids’ Food Basket representatives come to their schools and volunteered with them. Most groups help pack healthy snacks and decorate brown bags. Businesses, retirees and church groups volunteer in large numbers to help prepare the thousands of sack suppers are prepared daily.
