Make reading a habit
Make reading a habit featured image

There’s an old saying in education: first children learn to read, then they read to learn. Reading by third grade is so important that Michigan has a new law designed to encourage schools, teachers, and parents to work together to ensure all kids are READING BY 3RD.

If you have a first grader, learn how you can use GRPS LITERACY KITS to increase your child’s reading time, improve his or her confidence, and build reading skills with fun at-home activities. Watch your first grader’s backpack for more information!

If you have a preschooler or kindergartner, start daily reading now. If you have an older child still learning to read, be sure to read two books together at home every day. Practice, practice, practice is the key.

If you want to dig deeper, here’s the academic research behind this effort.
