Reinforce good decisions
Reinforce good decisions featured image

As children get older and more logical, parents can do simple things to encourage thoughtful decision-making and good choices. Recognize and reinforce good choices every day. For example, say things like:

  • “Good job remembering to bring your homework home”
  • “Thanks for taking time to finish that task now, good planning!”
  • “You have been ahead of schedule every day this week, I am impressed”

Giving attention to good choices and behaviors is much more effective than calling out negative ones.
