Looking back at the 2023-2024 school year
Fall 2023 at GRPS saw our students, staff, and families starting another school year to an exciting start. While many of the changes we saw in the past school year have been difficult, we also saw unparalleled displays of innovation, resilience, selflessness, and perseverance, unlike anything our community has seen before. For this, the GRPS FACE team feels grateful!
In the words of Marise McConaghy for Women’s Agenda:
The events of this year have taught us many lessons — perhaps the most significant one being that our students have remarkable resilience and aptitude for new ways of learning. We underestimated students’ desire and capacity to be self-organized, self-motivated and independent, and although we suspected this in many of them, the pandemic has forced us to move away from traditional structures and given students a chance to prove themselves extremely capable in charting their own paths.
The unplanned and unchartered territory of enforced remote learning has given students the unexpected opportunity to develop a new toolkit of skills and strengths that they wouldn’t have otherwise gained in a regular school setting. And these COVID acquired skills will serve them well into the future.”
